What to Expect at Your Child's First Dental Visit

Child smiling at the dentist

The first dental visit sets the tone for how your child feels about the dentist for years to come — which is exactly why we take it slow. There's no drilling, no scary tools, just a gentle look at their teeth and gums and a chance for them to get comfortable in the chair.

We recommend scheduling that first visit around their first birthday, or as soon as their first tooth appears. It's less about treatment at that age and more about catching potential issues early and helping your child build a positive, low-stress association with the dentist.

You're welcome to stay in the room the whole time. Most kids do best when a parent is nearby, and we're happy to explain what we're doing in simple, friendly language your child can follow along with.

If your child is anxious, that's completely normal — we see it often, and we never rush. A calm, unhurried first visit usually means an easier second one, and an easier one after that.
